On a bright and cheerful morning, the preschool of SK Gual To'Deh was filled with joy, laughter, and the sweet aroma of traditional delicacies. The event was a double celebration—Hari Raya Aidilfitri and a farewell party for two beloved teachers, Cikgu Sharifah and Cikgu Noor. The preschool team organized the occasion with great enthusiasm, supported by the preschool teacher.

The highlight of the event was the potluck-style feast, featuring an array of traditional Hari Raya dishes such as lontong, mee sup, fruits and a variety of cookies and cakes. Teachers mingled, sharing stories and laughter while enjoying the food. A special corner was set up for photo-taking, where children took pictures with their teachers and friends in festive attire.

As part of the farewell segment, the preschool students presented handmade cards and small gifts to the departing teachers. Colleagues also shared heartfelt messages, and a video montage of memories was played, capturing moments from their years of teaching. Although both teachers did not give a speech, their warm smiles and emotional expressions showed how much the celebration meant to them.

The event ended with a group photo and a sense of bittersweet farewell. It was a meaningful and memorable celebration that reflected the strong bonds among teachers, students, and the school community. The legacy of both teachers will surely live on in the hearts of those they have inspired.

The Irresistible Mee Kari of SK Gual To’Deh’s Hari Raya Celebration

The aroma of rich spices and creamy coconut milk fills the teacher staff room as the beloved Mee Kari takes center stage during our Hari Raya festivities. This iconic dish, a harmonious blend of Malay and Indian flavors, is a highlight of celebrations, bringing teachers together in a joyful feast.

The golden-yellow curry broth, simmered to perfection, is the soul of this dish. Fragrant with turmeric, lemongrass, and ginger, the curry is luxuriously creamy from coconut milk, with just the right kick of chili for warmth. Tender chunks of chicken or beef soak up the spices, while potatoes add a comforting softness. Served over springy yellow noodles, the dish is crowned with a medley of toppings: crunchy bean sprouts, fresh cilantro, crispy fried shallots, and a squeeze of zesty lime to brighten every bite.

What makes our staff room’s Mee Kari special is the heartwarming effort behind it. Prepared with care by our school’s kitchen team or contributed by generous colleagues, it symbolizes unity and gratitude. As teachers gather around, sharing stories and laughter over steaming bowls, the meal becomes more than food—it’s a celebration of togetherness and cultural pride. For many of us, this annual treat is a delicious reminder of Hari Raya’s spirit: generosity, joy, and the simple pleasure of a well-loved dish. Whether enjoyed as a hearty breakfast or a shared lunch, the Mee Kari at SK Gual To’Deh is a flavor-packed tradition we eagerly anticipate each year.

Selamat Hari Raya to all who celebrate! May our bonds grow stronger over every delicious spoonful.

Farewell Tribute to Ustazah Sharifah Binti Yusoff (1989–2025)

SK GUAL TO'DEH - "A true teacher never retires, for every touch of hers leaves a lasting light in the hearts of her students."

On April 29, 2025, a momentous and emotional day will be remembered by all at our school as we bid farewell to one of the most beloved educators in our community – Ustazah Sharifah binti Yusoff, whose teaching journey began in 1989 and spanned an incredible 36 years of unwavering service, love, and dedication.

A Journey Rooted in Passion and Purpose

Permanently living at Cabang Salam, Rantau Panjang, Kelantan, Ustazah Sharifah epitomizes the values of compassion, integrity, and commitment. From her very first day as a teacher, she carried the noble mission of nurturing young minds, not only through knowledge but through values, character, and faith. Her classroom was never just a room of learning – it was a sanctuary of wisdom and warmth.

Known for her gentle voice, motherly kindness, and firm but loving approach, Ustazah Sharifah has guided generations of children with patience and empathy. She taught more than just religious studies; she modeled what it means to live a life guided by sincerity, humility, and respect for others. Her students did not just learn to read the Quran or understand Islamic teachings – they learned how to be good people.

A Teacher, A Mentor, A Friend

Among her fellow teachers, she is cherished as a pillar of strength – always ready to help, to guide, and to share. She mentored many younger teachers, leading by example, never seeking praise but always giving her best. Her presence in the staffroom brought peace, and her words often brought clarity during challenging times.

The love and admiration she has earned from both students and colleagues are immeasurable. Her legacy is not only in the lessons she taught but in the lives she touched – in the hearts of every child who walked into her class, and in the spirit of every teacher who worked beside her.

A Bittersweet Goodbye

As her final day of service approached, the atmosphere at school was filled with mixed emotions – joy for her well-earned rest and sorrow at the thought of parting with someone so deeply treasured. During the farewell ceremony, tears flowed freely – from young students clutching her hand, to fellow teachers who have spent decades alongside her.

Her farewell speech was simple, yet deeply moving:

"I never saw teaching as a job, but as an act of devotion. I am grateful for every moment I’ve spent here, especially to serve in my own hometown, Rantau Panjang. Thank you to all who have walked this journey with me. Remember, knowledge is light – and light is meant to be shared."

A Legacy That Lives On

Though Ustazah Sharifah has officially retired, her legacy will continue to echo through the hallways, classrooms, and hearts of the school community. Her humble home in Cabang Salam remains a welcoming place where former students, neighbors, and colleagues continue to visit – a testimony to the love and respect she has nurtured over the years.

We thank her from the depths of our hearts. For the wisdom she imparted, the patience she showed, and the love she gave. We pray that her days ahead will be filled with good health, peace, and happiness surrounded by loved ones.

Ustazah Sharifah, thank you for your service, your heart, and your light.
You will always be a part of our story, and your impact will forever shine in the lives you've shaped.

Hari Raya Celebration 2025 at SK Gual To'Deh: A Heartwarming Kampung-Style Festivity

SK GUAL TO'DEH - On a vibrant morning in April 2025, Sekolah Kebangsaan Gual To'Deh transformed into a lively hub of cultural festivity as it hosted its much-anticipated Hari Raya Celebration. Though modest in scale, the event radiated warmth and community spirit, embodying the essence of traditional Malay village celebrations.

Preparations and Community Involvement

The preparations commenced several days prior, with teachers, students, and parents collaboratively working to set the stage for the celebration. A focal point of the preparations was the stage, meticulously designed to reflect a traditional kampung (village) ambiance. Decorations included handcrafted ketupat ornaments, bamboo structures, and traditional fabrics, creating an authentic and nostalgic atmosphere.

A significant contribution came from the former Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) head, who generously sponsored a cow for the event. This gesture not only provided a centerpiece for the communal feast but also symbolized the enduring support and unity within the school community.

The Day of Celebration

As the day unfolded, the school grounds buzzed with excitement. Students arrived adorned in colorful traditional attire, their faces alight with anticipation. The event commenced with a series of performances by the students, showcasing their talents and the rich cultural heritage of Malaysia.

Student Performances

The performances were a highlight of the celebration, reflecting the students' dedication and enthusiasm. Among the standout acts was a rendition of "Halaman Asmara" by Awie and Ziana Zain (miming), performed with heartfelt emotion and musical finesse. This was followed by a series of skits and traditional dances, each narrating stories of community, tradition, and the festive spirit of Hari Raya.

Traditional Cuisine and Communal Feast

Central to the celebration was the communal feast, a testament to the collaborative efforts of teachers and parents who prepared an array of traditional dishes. The menu featured classics such as lemang, rendang, satay, and an assortment of traditional kuih, offering a culinary journey through Malay festive cuisine.

The cooking process itself was a communal activity, with parents and teachers sharing recipes, techniques, and stories, further strengthening the bonds within the school community. The feast was not merely a meal but a celebration of togetherness and shared heritage.

Decor and Atmosphere

The school's transformation into a kampung-style setting was a visual delight. The stage, adorned with traditional motifs and decorations, served as a picturesque backdrop for the day's activities. The attention to detail in the decor evoked a sense of nostalgia and cultural pride among attendees.

Community Engagement and Cultural Appreciation

The Hari Raya Celebration at SK Gual To'Deh was more than an event; it was an embodiment of cultural appreciation and community engagement. It provided students with an immersive experience into their cultural traditions, fostering a deeper understanding and respect for their heritage.Taarana

Moreover, the event served as a platform for intergenerational interaction, with students, parents, and teachers coming together in celebration. This unity and shared joy are reflective of the broader Malaysian spirit of communal harmony during festive occasions.

Conclusion

The 2025 Hari Raya Celebration at SK Gual To'Deh stands as a shining example of how schools can serve as centers of cultural preservation and community unity. Through collective effort, heartfelt performances, and shared meals, the event not only celebrated a significant cultural festival but also reinforced the values of togetherness, respect, and cultural pride among all participants.

SEGAK and BMI Fitness Assessment at SK Gual To'Deh

SK GUAL TO'DEH - In an effort to promote physical fitness and healthy living among students, Sekolah Kebangsaan Gual To'Deh recently conducted the SEGAK and BMI physical fitness assessment, organized by dedicated Physical Education teachers Mr. Mohd Zahini and Mr. Mohd Salimi.

The event was part of the school’s regular physical education programme, in alignment with the Ministry of Education Malaysia’s guidelines for the Standard Physical Fitness Assessment for Schools (SEGAK). The SEGAK assessment included a series of standardized fitness tests aimed at evaluating the students’ endurance, strength, flexibility, and body composition.

Among the activities assessed were:

  • 20-meter Shuttle Run: Measuring cardiovascular endurance

  • Partial Sit-ups (30 seconds): Measuring abdominal muscle strength

  • Push-ups: Measuring upper body strength and endurance

  • Sit and Reach: Measuring lower back and hamstring flexibility

Body Mass Index (BMI) Measurement

In addition to the fitness tests, the Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement was carried out to evaluate each student’s weight status in relation to their height. This assessment helps to provide a broader picture of a student's overall physical health.

BMI was calculated using the following formula:

BMI=Weight (kg)[Height (m)]2\text{BMI} = \frac{\text{Weight (kg)}}{[\text{Height (m)}]^2}

Based on this calculation, students were classified into the following categories:

  • Underweight: BMI below the normal range

  • Normal Weight: BMI within the healthy range

  • Overweight: BMI above the normal range

  • Obese: BMI significantly above the normal range

This BMI data helps teachers, parents, and health professionals monitor student growth and determine if further nutritional or physical interventions are needed. The test sessions saw enthusiastic participation from students across all year groups, especially from Years 4 to 6, who were required to complete the full SEGAK battery. The overall atmosphere was filled with energy and encouragement as peers and teachers alike cheered each other on.

This initiative not only provided valuable data about students' fitness levels but also instilled the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle, in line with the goals of the Healthy Schools Programme (Program Sekolah Sihat).

With the continuous support from the school administration, teachers, and parents, SK Gual To'Deh remains committed to the holistic development of its students—academically, physically, and emotionally.

A Heartwarming Hari Raya 2025

LUBOK JONG - As the joyous season of Hari Raya approaches, I feel excited that this year, my house will be filled with the warmth and laughter of family. It’s a special time of year when relatives come together, old and young, to celebrate the bonds we share. This year’s Hari Raya promises to be one to remember, as many of my siblings and relatives will be visiting our home to join in the festivities.

The beauty of Hari Raya lies not only in the new clothes we wear or the delicious food we prepare, but in the deep sense of connection and love that fills the air. With relatives from near and far coming together, my home will transform into a haven of memories, where we can catch up, laugh, and reminisce about the good old days.

There’s something magical about having all generations of the family under one roof, from the youngest children excitedly running around to the elders who share their wisdom and stories of the past. It's these moments of togetherness that make Hari Raya so special. The kitchen will be alive with the ketupat, the smell of tapai, and the ever-present aroma of freshly baked kuih, all of which signal that this is truly a time for celebration.

As we gather around the dining table, the act of sharing a meal becomes more than just eating. It’s about reliving the traditions passed down through generations, teaching the younger ones the significance of the holiday, and fostering a spirit of gratitude. It’s a time to reflect on the blessings we’ve received, to forgive past grievances, and to start anew with hearts full of hope and joy.

This Hari Raya, I look forward to the laughter of the children as they engage in their playful antics, the sounds of conversation filling every corner of the house, and the endless photo-taking sessions that will surely capture the essence of this beautiful celebration. Most of all, I cherish the sense of unity that comes from being surrounded by family, knowing that no matter where life takes us, we always have each other to rely on.

To my dear readers, I hope this Hari Raya brings you closer to your loved ones, and that you too can experience the joy, love, and warmth that come with family gatherings. May this festive season fill your hearts with peace and happiness. Selamat Hari Raya 2025!
