On a bright morning, SK Gual To’Deh successfully organized a Self-Identity Camp at Lata Bijih, located in the district of Tanah Merah. The camp was held to strengthen students’ resilience, discipline, teamwork, and leadership through outdoor and challenging activities. A total of 82 pupils from Year 4 to Year 6 participated in this meaningful program, making it a memorable experience not only for the pupils but also for the teachers who accompanied them.
During the obstacle course activity, the pupils had their faces smeared with charcoal, giving them the feeling of being real soldiers in jungle training. The experience not only boosted their excitement but also strengthened their courage, teamwork, and determination to complete every challenge with pride and resilience.
The journey began early in the morning. The pupils gathered at school, filled with excitement, and carried their bags, food supplies, and outdoor equipment. At exactly 7.45 a.m., the bus departed from SK Gual To’Deh, and after about an hour, the group arrived safely at Lata Bijih. Upon arrival, the pupils were welcomed by the camp management team, who immediately conducted a short briefing. The briefing covered important safety measures, rules, and the schedule of activities.
The first activity was jungle trekking. This was one of the highlights of the program as it tested the pupils’ stamina, endurance, and ability to adapt in a natural environment. Walking through the dense forest, the pupils learned to appreciate nature while working together as a team. Along the trail, they faced challenges such as climbing slopes, crossing small streams, and identifying plants. Teachers guided them to be cautious yet confident, ensuring no one was left behind. At the end of the trek, the pupils prepared a simple meal in the forest. Cooking in the wilderness taught them survival skills, cooperation, and creativity in using limited resources.
After the jungle trekking session, the pupils returned to the campsite for a short break. They performed their prayers, refreshed themselves, and got ready for the next activity. The afternoon program continued with the obstacle course, which was held in a nearby oil palm plantation. This session was designed to build courage, confidence, and problem-solving skills among the pupils. They had to crawl under nets, balance on logs, climb over barriers, and cross muddy paths. The laughter, cheers, and teamwork were clearly visible as the pupils encouraged one another to complete the tasks.
What made the camp truly special was the spirit shown by the participants. Many pupils admitted that it was their first time experiencing such outdoor challenges, yet they embraced the activities with enthusiasm and determination. Teachers observed that the camp provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to showcase leadership, responsibility, and independence outside the classroom. The camp also nurtured friendships among pupils of different classes and levels, strengthening the sense of unity within the school community.
The program was not only about physical activities but also about instilling values. Respect for nature, teamwork, discipline, and self-confidence were among the main elements emphasized throughout the camp. Teachers reminded the pupils to practice good manners, support each other, and always be grateful for the opportunities given.
The camp concluded the following day with a reflection session where pupils shared their experiences and lessons learned. They expressed happiness, pride, and a sense of achievement for completing the program. It was indeed an unforgettable memory for SK Gual To’Deh.
In conclusion, the Self-Identity Camp at Lata Bijih was a successful initiative that brought meaningful impact to the pupils. It combined adventure, education, and moral values, providing pupils with skills and memories that will stay with them for years to come. The program also reflected the school’s commitment to providing holistic education that goes beyond the classroom, preparing pupils to face challenges in life with confidence and resilience.
