SK GUAL TO'DEH - This morning, excitement filled the air at SK Gual To’Deh as the Year 2 Arif students entered the English Language Room to witness a special drama rehearsal. The performance, titled “Batu Belah Batu Bertangkup,” was presented by the talented Delima Sakti group, one of the school’s most active and creative performing teams. This rehearsal was not an ordinary one — it was part of the school’s preparation for the upcoming state-level online competition, HIPMax Malaysian Storyfest 2025, which will take place in October.
The English Language Room had been transformed into a mini theatre, complete with a hand-painted backdrop, simple props, and lighting effects that brought the story to life. The Delima Sakti group, made up of upper primary students, had spent weeks practicing their lines, perfecting their pronunciation, and learning stage expressions under the guidance of the English panel teachers. The teachers emphasized teamwork, discipline, and creativity throughout the rehearsal process, ensuring that the students performed confidently and naturally in English.
The story of Batu Belah Batu Bertangkup — a beloved Malay legend — was adapted into English to align with the competition’s theme of “Celebrating Malaysian Stories through English.” The performance combined traditional elements with modern storytelling techniques, using simple dialogue, expressive acting, and emotional depth. The young actors impressed the audience with their ability to balance language learning with cultural appreciation.
Year 2 Arif students were captivated by the performance. Many of them whispered in excitement, amazed by their seniors’ fluency and confidence. Teachers noted that the rehearsal helped motivate younger pupils to participate in future English activities and understand that learning English can be both meaningful and fun. After the performance, students engaged in a short discussion about the moral values of the story, highlighting lessons about love, gratitude, and respect for parents.
Adding to the excitement, the entire rehearsal was recorded and uploaded to the school’s official YouTube channel to showcase SK Gual To’Deh’s participation in HIPMax Malaysian Storyfest 2025. This digital initiative allows parents, teachers, and students across the state to view the school’s creative efforts while promoting the use of English through digital storytelling.
Through initiatives like this, SK Gual To’Deh continues to prove that language learning goes beyond the classroom — it blossoms through creativity, technology, and the power of cultural expression.
