KV PPD PASIR MAS - The Safe Internet Program held today at Pasir Mas Vocational College (KV) was an important initiative to strengthen cyber safety awareness among the school community. The program was organized by the Pasir Mas District Education Office (PPD) in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). I, together with another teacher, accompanied 10 students from our school to the event, which began with registration at around 8:30 a.m.
The primary objective of this program was to expose both teachers and students to the importance of online safety and to enhance their understanding of the growing threats of cybercrime in the digital era. The internet has evolved beyond a learning platform into a social and economic space that demands responsible and digitally literate users. Therefore, the collaboration between PPD and MCMC in organizing such a program was timely and aligned with the needs of 21st-century education.
One of the main highlights of the event was a talk delivered by a police officer on cybercrime awareness. The presentation covered various forms of cyber offenses, including online fraud, cyberbullying, identity theft, defamation, and the spread of false information. The officer also shared real-life cases from Malaysia to illustrate the legal and social consequences of internet misuse. The session was highly engaging, with short videos and interactive quizzes that captured the attention of the young participants and helped them grasp the issues effectively.
In addition, representatives from MCMC delivered an informative session focusing on ethical online behavior, users’ responsibilities, and strategies to protect personal data. They emphasized the importance of building digital resilience among young learners, enabling them to deal with misinformation and digital manipulation effectively. Students were also given the opportunity to ask questions and share their personal experiences of using the internet in daily life, reflecting their growing awareness of digital citizenship.
The closing ceremony was officiated by a representative from PPD Pasir Mas, who expressed his appreciation to all agencies involved, especially MCMC and the police department, for their collaboration and commitment. In his closing speech, he highlighted that cyber safety education should be a continuous effort in schools to nurture responsible and ethical digital citizens.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates to Student Icons and Teacher Icons who demonstrated outstanding commitment in promoting safe and responsible internet use within their schools. The program officially ended around 1:20 p.m. The overall atmosphere was meaningful and inspiring, providing not only valuable knowledge but also strengthening the cooperation between government agencies, schools, and the community. In conclusion, the Safe Internet Program at KV Pasir Mas PPD served as an effective platform to cultivate a generation of digitally literate, ethical, and responsible internet users who will contribute positively to the nation’s digital well-being.
