SK GUAL TO'DEH - A TV room for the School Resource Centre (PSS) at SK Gual To’Deh is being developed beside the existing room as part of a strategic initiative aligned with the Ministry of Education Malaysia’s (MOE) commitment to strengthening digital literacy and 21st-century competencies among pupils. The 30 x 10-foot room, equipped with 30 laptops, is designed not merely as a media space but as a comprehensive technology learning hub. Its establishment supports MOE’s data-driven and digital-integration programmes such as PSS Digitalisation, Digital Technology Integration in Teaching and Learning, and the Educational Big Data Collaboration Initiative.
Through this TV PSS room, pupils who recently completed the TV PSS workshop can continue learning in a more structured manner. They are exposed to essential and advanced digital competencies, including the use of smartphones and laptops for media production. Key skills emphasised in the programme include video recording techniques, capturing high-quality photographs, and applying basic editing software to produce suitable media content. These learning opportunities align with current research findings indicating that structured digital-competency training significantly enhances learners’ technological understanding and supports higher-order thinking skills.
Beyond technical development, the programme also trains pupils to serve as “school reporters.” Beginning next year, they will be responsible for documenting and reporting on school activities and events. This experience not only builds self-confidence but also strengthens communication, critical thinking, and creativity. International research on media literacy underscores that involving pupils in school-based journalism expands their communicative competence and deepens their understanding of information ethics—an essential component of digital-safety principles promoted by MOE.
The pupils’ media products will be uploaded to the school’s official social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube and TikTok. This practice not only increases the visibility of school programmes but also cultivates a culture of evidence-based information sharing. The initiative reinforces digital-reporting practices encouraged through MOE’s school data-digitalisation agenda. Producing digital content enables the school to systematically collect data on student performance, interests and skill development, contributing to more data-informed educational planning.
In essence, the establishment of the TV PSS room represents a holistic effort that integrates technological needs, pupil talent development and the national digital-education transformation agenda. With proper facilities and structured guidance, this room is expected to become an innovative learning centre that strengthens the school’s transition towards a mature, data-driven and competitive digital culture.
