Language Week and HIP Programme at SK Gual To’Deh 2025 (2nd Day)

SK GUAL TO'DEH - The second day of the Language Week and Highly Immersive Programme (HIP) 2025 at SK Gual To’Deh shifted its focus to the English language. After an inspiring first day filled with Malay language activities, pupils were once again allowed to immerse themselves in a variety of creative and interactive English-based programmes. Organised by the English Panel, the day was designed to highlight not only the importance of learning English but also to encourage pupils to use the language actively in enjoyable and meaningful contexts.

In the hall, students’ smiling faces, sparkling eyes, joyful laughter, and excited expressions created a lively and memorable atmosphere.

A wide range of activities was carefully planned and carried out. Pupils from different year levels took part in engaging games such as Matching Game and Guess the Animal, which were particularly appealing to younger learners. These activities helped them build vocabulary, practise pronunciation, and develop confidence in recognising words and expressing simple sentences in English. The cheerful atmosphere in the classrooms reflected the enthusiasm of the pupils as they participated in these language games.

Meanwhile, slightly older pupils enjoyed My Favourite…, an activity that encouraged them to talk about their favourite colours, sports, and school subjects. This activity not only improved speaking skills but also fostered self-expression and interaction with peers. For Year 3 pupils, the ever-popular Simon Says game was conducted, enabling them to practise listening comprehension and respond promptly to instructions in English. The laughter and excitement clearly showed how well the pupils responded to this game-based approach.

The highlight of the day came with activities that required greater confidence and creativity, such as Role Play, Public Speaking, Drama Performance, and Duet Singing. These programmes were particularly impactful for upper primary pupils, who showcased their ability to use English in authentic contexts. Role Play allowed them to act out real-life situations in English, while Public Speaking gave pupils the courage to speak on stage in front of an audience, an important skill for their future academic and personal growth. Drama Performance and Duet Singing added a touch of entertainment and artistry, combining language use with creativity and performance skills.

The English Day not only celebrated the pupils’ talents but also demonstrated the success of HIP in creating a school-wide environment where English is seen as an enjoyable and useful tool. Teachers acted as facilitators, guiding and motivating pupils while ensuring that every child was able to participate according to their level. Prizes were awarded to encourage effort and achievement, and the applause from peers motivated the participants even further.

During the 2nd day of HIP 2025, Cikgu Nazan and Sir Mazeri captivated the audience with a heartfelt duet performance of the song My Way by Robbie Williams, filling the hall with harmony and applause.

In conclusion, the English Day of the 5th Language Week and HIP 2025 at SK Gual To’Deh was a resounding success. It provided pupils with a platform to learn English in a fun, creative, and supportive environment. With activities ranging from simple vocabulary games to complex drama performances, the programme highlighted the diverse ways in which English can be taught and learned. Most importantly, it instilled confidence and joy in pupils, encouraging them to embrace English as a valuable skill for their future.
